Chrome Free lignosulphonate -UNIFC Deflocculant
UNICF Deflacculant is specially formulated to act as a deflocculant in virtually all water‐base mud systems UNICF Deflacculant reduces and stabilizes viscosity and assists in reducing fluid loss. UNICF Deflacculant is used as a thinner and fluid loss control agent in HTHP wells. It is suitable for all kinds of drilling fluids.
Applications of Chrome Free lignosulphonate
UNICF Deflacculant is intended for use as a deflocculant and fluid loss additive in all types of water-based systems. These include freshwater, seawater, saturated saltwater, lime, and gypsum base fluids. Moreover, Laboratory tests and field usage show the deflocculating ability of the material in the presence of contaminants and an increase in temperature.
UNICF Deflacculant is easily added to the mud system through the mud hopper. The required concentration of UNICF Deflacculant is a function of desired viscosity or fluid loss.
Advantage
- Compatible with all water-based fluids
- UExcellent deflocculant
- Temperature stable to 325°F (163°C)
- Excellent performance in the presence of contaminants
- Assists in reducing fluid loss
- UNICF Deflacculant is formulated without the addition of chrome,
- allows usage in environmentally sensitive areas.
- Can emulsify small quantities of non‐aqueous fluids
- Effective for salt or anhydrite contaminations

Recommended Treatment for Chrome-Free lignosulphonate
Initial treatment may range from 1 to 12 lb/bbl (2.85‐34.2 kg/m³) depending on the mud system. Contaminated systems usually require large concentrations to ensure overall mud stability. Although UNICF Deflacculant does aid in reducing fluid loss, it additionally may need supplementary additives to achieve a desired level of fluid‐loss control. Also, UNICF Deflacculant shows maximum effectiveness when the pH is controlled in the 9.0‐11.0 range.
Mud performance
Limitations
Maximum effectiveness in fluids with a 9-11 pH (alkaline); less effective with high chlorides; may foam
